Racers start at higher desert elevations near Mayer and gradually descend toward the Agua Fria River basin, with a net downhill profile that can feel deceiving — as every descent is hard-earned with tough climbs scattered throughout. There are several water crossings which may be flowing during wetter winters. The Black Canyon’s combination of rugged terrain, constant elevation changes, and remote beauty make it a true test of endurance and trail skill.

35 Mile Event Details

The 35 mile race stats at Deep Canyon Ranch in Black Canyon City, AZ. Racers gradually descend toward the Agua Fria River basin and finish at Pioneer Living History Museum. The net downhill profile can feel deceiving — as every descent is hard-earned with tough climbs scattered throughout. Racers can expect flowing water crossings during wet, rainy years. The Black Canyon’s combination of rugged terrain, constant elevation changes, and remote beauty makes it a true test of endurance and trail skill.

Results & Photos

The race courses will be well marked with orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots and reflective medallions. Trail junctions and turns will be well marked with reflective laminated signs. In addition, blue & white checkerboard plastic flagging and RED reflective WRONG WAY signs will be hung to designate non-race or “WRONG WAY” trails. All riders are responsible for understanding the layout of the course. Please familiarize yourself with the course maps on our website prior to race day and/or print a map to bring along with you.

We will have our MedStar Solutions medical staff based at the start / finish headquarters to assist with first aid onsite. We reserve the right to pull you from the race if medical officials deem it necessary.
NOTE: Please do NOT call 911 in a medical emergency. Our medical team is highly trained and understands the terrain and driving access points. Please call the race day number and they will dispatch immediately.

Parking and Shuttles
Finish line parking will be at the Pioneer Living History Museum. There is no charge to park. Racers will purchase shuttle bus tickets at registration which will allow them transport to the start line of both distances on race morning. Shuttle information will be delivered closer to race week.

Bikes will be shuttled to the start line for all racers who take the shuttle bus.

Racers may elect to be dropped off at the start line. Note: There is no parking at the Chauncey Ranch or Deep Canyon Ranch start lines, and no transportation is available from the finish line back to the start.

Bib Pick Up
Bib pick up will be available Friday at . Bibs can also be picked up Saturday morning before the shuttle depart. Please arrive early if you are planning to pick up before the race Saturday morning.

Pets
For the safety of all racers, no pets are allowed on-course at any time. The finish line at Pioneer Living History Museum is dog friendly. Dogs must be leashed and supervised at all times. Please be aware, the museum is open-air and it is not uncommon to see snakes on the property. Watch your surroundings accordingly.

Camping

Camping is not available at the either start line at this time.

Camping is currently not available at the finish line but may be in the future. Check back occasionally for camping updates.

Mountain Biking and Trash
Please respect the trails and the beauty of the desert by disposing of any trash at one of our aid stations. We do recycle and participate in the Terracycle program, where we recycle used nutrition packets and gel wrappers. Please deposit them in the specified container at the aid station.
